Shohei Ohtani has a sprained ulnar collateral ligament in his pitching elbow, a malady that likely won’t prevent him from pitching for the Los Angeles Angels in 2018 but casts a significant pall over one of the most anticipated major league debuts in years. Yahoo Sports reported that a physical exam performed Nov. 28 in Tokyo and distributed to teams bidding on Ohtani revealed a grade-one sprain of his right UCL, and that Ohtani – bidding to star as both a pitcher and hitter in the major leagues – received a platelet rich plasma injection on Oct. 20.
